Happy New Year! If your resolution list includes anything like “be more prepared,” “waste less time,” or “stop shoveling like a Victorian ghost,” you’re in the right place.
Today we’re talking about one of the sneakiest good upgrades for farmers, landowners, trail operators, and anyone who has ever stared at a snowed-in driveway and muttered: “Cool. Cool cool cool.”
The move: turn your ATV/UTV into an actual workhorse with a KFI plow + mount kit. It’s the kind of upgrade that pays you back in minutes… and also lets your machine do something besides looking tough in the barn (no judgment, we’ve all got a “parking lot princess” phase).
Why a Plow Turns “Fun Rig” into “Useful Rig”
A UTV with a plow isn’t just a winter toy — it’s a legit utility machine. Think:
- Driveways & private roads (especially long rural lanes)
- Barn access and feed runs when the weather gets spicy
- Trailheads, campground loops, and access gates for trail operators
- Light grading and pushing debris (when conditions make sense)
And the best part? Compared to shoveling, it’s a whole lot less “New Year, New Me” and a whole lot more “New Year, Same Back.”

KFI’s Simple 3-Step Plow System (No Rocket Surgery Required)
KFI’s setup is straightforward: you’re basically building a plow “stack” that fits your machine. Here’s the breakdown:
- Choose your blade (steel or Pro-Poly)
- Choose your push tube + swivel mount (connects blade to the machine mount)
- Choose your vehicle-specific mount bracket (this is what makes it bolt-on for your exact rig)
That’s it. Blade + push tube + mount = your UTV suddenly has a job.
Picking the Right Blade (Including 72")
First: Why 72" is a sweet spot for many UTVs
A 72-inch blade is popular because it covers a lot of ground per pass — great for long driveways, wider lanes, and clearing parking areas without spending your whole morning in “low gear meditation.”
Quick rule of thumb: your blade should be wide enough to still clear the machine’s tire track when the blade is angled. Wider tires, offset wheels, and big “mud therapy” setups may push you toward a wider blade.
Steel vs Pro-Poly (aka “Tank” vs “Quiet Ninja”)
-
Steel blades: classic, tough, great scraping feel — ideal when you’re hard on equipment or deal with heavier, packed snow.
Example: KFI UTV Pro-S Straight Blade 72 in. (SKU: KFI105072) -
Pro-Poly blades: lighter, slick surface that sheds snow nicely, and generally a bit nicer to live with.
Example: KFI UTV Pro-Poly Straight Blade 72 in. (SKU: KFI105872)
Either way, if you’re looking for “keep the property usable all winter,” both get it done — the best choice depends on your terrain, how aggressive you plow, and whether your snow is fluffy… or the evil concrete kind.
Don’t skip this piece: the Push Tube + Swivel Mount
This is the connector between blade and machine mount — and it’s what lets you angle the blade and actually do plow stuff. Example:
KFI UTV Push Tube with Swivel Mount (2 in. Receiver) (SKU: KFI106300)
Mount Kits: The “Make It Fit” Secret Sauce
If the blade is the business end, the mount bracket is the part that makes it vehicle-specific and sturdy. Get the correct mount for your year/make/model, and suddenly it’s bolt-on, quick attach, and not a sketchy “universal-ish” science project.
Examples of machine-specific KFI mounts we carry:
- KFI 02–09 Polaris Ranger (+ Receiver) UTV Plow Mount (SKU: KFI106545)
- KFI 2024 Polaris RZR XP 1000 UTV Plow Mount (SKU: KFI106610)
- KFI 17+ Kawasaki Mule 400 SX UTV Plow Mount (SKU: KFI105875)
Pro tip: Before ordering, double-check your exact year/model and any submodel trim differences. Some rigs change frames/mounting points mid-generation. If you’re unsure, shoot us the details and we’ll help you match it up.
Resolution-Friendly Add-Ons (Because “Set It and Forget It” Feels Amazing)

Quick Install Overview + Tools List
Important: Follow the KFI instructions for your exact kit. If you’re not comfortable lifting the machine, torquing fasteners, or routing winch/lift lines safely, call in a pro. There’s no trophy for “installed it wrong in the driveway.”
Safety gear (yes, really)
- Safety glasses
- Work gloves
- Steel-toe or sturdy boots (plow parts have opinions about toes)
- Warm layers that won’t snag in moving parts
Tools you’ll typically want
- Socket set + ratchet
- Wrenches (combination set)
- Torque wrench (do it right)
- Hex/Allen keys (kit-dependent)
- Pliers / side cutters (zip ties, cotter pins)
- Threadlocker (medium strength) + anti-seize (where appropriate)
- Grease (as specified by the kit)
- Jack / stands or a safe lift method (as needed)
Install steps (high level)
- Mount bracket first: Bolt the vehicle-specific KFI mount to the frame per instructions.
- Assemble the blade: Install wear bar/skids as needed, confirm hardware is seated and aligned.
- Attach push tube + swivel mount: This connects blade to the quick mount bracket.
- Set blade height/angle: Adjust skids so you’re not digging into gravel (unless that’s your plan).
- Connect lift: Winch line/hook setup (or your lift method), verify clean routing and safe operation.
- Torque check: Re-check all fasteners after first use. Plowing vibrates everything like a paint shaker.
Safety Stuff (Because We Like You)
- Go slow. Plowing is not a speed sport. (Low gear is your friend.)
- Don’t ram snowbanks. Slow down before contact, and keep the blade at a reasonable height.
- Watch for hidden objects. Curbs, rocks, firewood, frozen ruts — they’re all waiting.
- Keep bystanders away. Especially kids and pets. (Dogs LOVE to “help,” which is… not ideal.)
- Know your limits. Cold weather + heavy exertion can be risky. Work smart, take breaks, and don’t overdo it.
